Not so fast: Obama Compares Himself to AOC
There is no comparison. Obama came from the corrupt Chicago political machine. He is/was a corporate Democrat. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the leader of the progressive movement in this country. Obama threw blacks under the bus during his time in the White House. AOC is a champion of the 99 percent. Get the idea?:
Former President Barack Obama said in a Monday night interview that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the high-profile progressive freshman, should have gotten more time to speak at the Democratic Convention in August.
“The Democratic National Convention I thought was really successful considering the pandemic,” Obama told Peter Hamby, host of Snap’s “Good Luck America.” “But the fact that an AOC only got, what? Three minutes or five minutes? When she speaks to a broad section of young people who are interested in what she has to say, even if they don’t agree with everything she says.”
He added, “New blood is always good. And I say that as somebody who used to be the young, shiny cool guy. But now is the gray-haired old grizzled vet.”
Did you say anything at the time, Barack? Don’t think so.
In fact, Obama has some not so nice things to say about the movement that is fighting against police violence in America. The same people Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer took a knee to show respect towards:
Barack Obama chastised Democratic political candidates for using “snappy” slogans like “defund the police” that he argued could turn voters away, in an interview released this week.
“You lost a big audience the minute you say it, which makes it a lot less likely that you’re actually going to get the changes you want done,” the former president told show host Peter Hamby in an interview with Good Luck America, a Snapchat political show.
Here’s what interviewing voters taught me about the slogan ‘defund the police’
“The key is deciding, do you want to actually get something done, or do you want to feel good among the people you already agree with?” Obama added.
This is AOC’s response to the myth of progressives having hurt Democrats in 2020:
There’s a reason Barack Obama built an entire national campaign apparatus outside of the Democratic National Committee. And there’s a reason that when he didn’t activate or continue that, we lost House majorities. Because the party — in and of itself — does not have the core competencies, and no amount of money is going to fix that.
If I lost my election, and I went out and I said: “This is moderates’ fault. This is because you didn’t let us have a floor vote on Medicare for all.” And they opened the hood on my campaign, and they found that I only spent $5,000 on TV ads the week before the election? They would laugh. And that’s what they look like right now trying to blame the Movement for Black Lives for their loss.
